Explore Puerto Rico’s Rich Culture and Traditions!

May 17, 2023

Puerto Rico is home to a vibrant and diverse culture, full of color and joy. Influenced by a blend of indigenous Taíno, Spanish, and African traditions, our culture has evolved into a unique array of folklore, music, cuisine, and more!

During your stay at the Condado Ocean Club, you can embark on a journey to discover our island and our customs.

Art & Music

Even within the walls of our hotel, you can immerse yourself in a taste of local art with our famous murals: “Sky”- Sofia Maldonado, “Pineapple Blues”- Eduardo Cabrer, “Entre Olas” – Gerardo Cloquell, and a beautiful untitled mural of larger-than-life tropical lilies & daisies by 2BLEENE.

If you want to enjoy more local exhibitions, we’ve got your “Go-To’s” close-by:

  • Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico
  • Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico
  • Museo de Las Américas
  • Santurce Es Ley 8th Edition – Street art festival, May 26 - 28

SALSA NIGHTS AT SANDBOX

Our music, is the soul of our people. Rhythms and sounds are part of us; even the slightest hint of tunes, you will quickly recognize a Puerto Rican who is at least tapping their feet on the ground. We just can’t help it! If music speaks to you, be part of this contagious joy and celebration of our culture, head to SANDBOX on Saturday nights at 7:00pm for a salsa class with a local instructor, followed by Salsa Social Dance and and Happy Hour Specials!

Traditional Food

A lot of people come to Puerto Rico for the food, and who can blame them? No visit is complete without savoring all the traditional dishes we have to offer. Puerto Rican food is a fusion of flavors and textures, lechón (roasted pig), mofongo (mashed plantains), alcapurrías (green plantain w/beef fritters), arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas), and chicharrones (fried chunks of chicken or pork) are just some of the most requested ones dishes! We also do “healthy” – tasting local fruits is a must: mango, pineapple, papaya, parcha (passion-fruit) and coconut are also part of our culinary heritage; all of these rich flavors also come in juice, ice cream and popsicle versions for a great refreshing treat.

SOCIAL GASTRO SERIES

Treat yourself to an evening of local flavors by experiencing authentic Latin cuisine at SOCIAL. Join us every Thursday, as we have added our Latin-style menu in addition to our existing dinner menu.

Stay tuned for all upcoming culinary events, and all happenings at the OC.

Traditional Celebrations

We thrive on vibrant festivals, and any reason to have a good time! Noche de San Juan is one of our most famous summer celebrations. On the night of June 23rd, at midnight everyone jumps backwards to the ocean 7 times, to wash away “bad juju” and welcome good vibes! The most awaited party for Noche de San Juan is at our sister property, La Concha. This year, the celebration is even bigger with One Hot Summer Weekend, a 3-day event full of entertainment. Be on the lookout and get your tickets or even better,  book our OC Summer package for stays over June 23rd.  The first 50 guests to book this package get complimentary tickets to the big-bash on Friday night at La Concha.

There’s more to be festive about this summer:

Vejigante Festival in Loiza, Flowers Festival in Aibonito, to name a couple, some of the highly anticipated festivals where the streets come alive with music, food, and fun, highlighting the local folklore.

Don’t miss your chance to live our rhythmic beats, unparalleled flavors, and cultural experiences during your stay with us.

We are happy to assist you with unique experiences and cultural connections inspired by authentic travel. Book now!
